Immigrants play pivotal role in education, innovation

Posted: February 2, 2017 at 9:35 am

On Tuesday evening I appeared on PBS NewsHour to discuss the important role that immigrants play at our universities and in our economy.

According to the National Foundation for American Policy, immigrants have been awarded 31 of 78 of the Nobel Prizes won by Americans in chemistry, medicine and physics since 2000. In addition, immigrants have started more than half of America’s startup companies valued at $1 billion or more. And more than 40 percent of the 2010 Fortune 500 companies were founded by immigrants or their children.

Please see the PBS report below. The interview portion begins at 1:14.
