Update on events that took place on campus Tuesday, Nov. 14.

In my last message about the unfolding conflict in Israel and Gaza, we shared that security efforts are in place to address safety concerns, and services are in place to assist people in crisis. Since that time, we have organized pre-existing campus services into a coordinated approach, which we are calling the Patriot Plan for Community Safety and Well-Being.

What is the commitment of George Mason University, both to this university, and to the community and Commonwealth we serve? We commit our fidelity to our principles.

This is a great university, filled with inspiring students, faculty, and staff – we deserve better. And I have reached out to The Heritage Foundation with precisely that message, plus an invitation.

Statement from the President

The current situation at WVU is heart-breaking, but it is not predictive of our own future.

This university is wholly devoted to maintaining a community that is safe, dignifying, and welcoming to every individual. Accordingly, when accusations come forward that suggest this standard has not been met, we take them very seriously.

This fall, George Mason University became the first public four-year university in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia to welcome more than 40,000 students.

It is with many emotions that I share with you news that one of George Mason University’s finest, Executive Vice President and Provost Mark Ginsberg, will be leaving our ranks to assume the presidency of Towson University.

Today’s United States Supreme Court decision barring the consideration of race for college admissions will not disrupt admissions operations at George Mason University, because Mason does not factor race into its admissions decisions.

Joined by students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and elected officials from around the Commonwealth, we announced the launch of Mason Now: Power the Possible — a $1 billion campaign for George Mason University.
