A growing number of American universities have erupted into jarring scenes of protests and police responses that we have not seen at universities in more than a half-century. Across Virginia, this reality has played out even on campuses that have scarcely ever experienced public demonstrations.

The university has decided not to move forward with the Washington Freedom on negotiations to build a temporary baseball and cricket stadium on the West Campus.

As George Mason University continues to explore the possibility of a temporary joint-use baseball-cricket stadium on the university’s West Campus in Fairfax, we wish to share important clarifications that we believe address urgent concerns of nearby neighbors.

"It is a long letter because we have heard that community members first and foremost are eager to learn specifics about this process. Future communications will be briefer, but I am addressing the biggest call first: for transparency."

We had quite a fall semester. So what are some of the highlights in store for this spring?

University faculty play an indispensable role in times of conflict such as this, providing our community with diverse perspectives, promoting understanding, and encouraging respectful discourse.

As we acknowledge and address the fear that our students are experiencing, it is important to denounce all forms of Islamophobia present in our community. 

Update on events that took place on campus Tuesday, Nov. 14.

In my last message about the unfolding conflict in Israel and Gaza, we shared that security efforts are in place to address safety concerns, and services are in place to assist people in crisis. Since that time, we have organized pre-existing campus services into a coordinated approach, which we are calling the Patriot Plan for Community Safety and Well-Being.
